I have seen far too many computers infected with spyware, viruses, trojans, malware, etc. There are numerous ways to end up with the problems caused by malicious software. Unsafe browsing practices, such as visiting untrusted websites and downloading software from untrusted sources are just two of the ways to acquire malicious and damaging software.
On many of the computers I have seen with malicious software, one common piece of software I find is LimeWire. LimeWire is a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) software that allows users to share files. It is a haven for malicious software, pirated music and illegal videos.
Mark Stone has written an excellent piece about LimeWire here.
If you have this software on your computer, do yourself a favor and uninstall it now. It’s not worth the trouble.

Sorry for the huge review, but I’m really loving the new Zune, and hope this, as well as the excellent reviews some other people have written, will help you decide if it’s the right choice for you. Webmaster of the php framework

I’ve been debating between several services like LimeWire, but after reading this post – I’m reconsidering.
Thanks for the info.

LimeWire works well, but I agree with everything written in this post. Just be careful.

I have always been leering about peer-to-peer software for several reasons – mainly security. You don’t have control over what you are downloading or the computer you are downloading it from. I think I will stay clear of it.

Hi!
I am fond of downloading videos and mp3′s in Limewire. Little did I know that with it, came a lot of viruses that corrupted most of my files. Before downloading anything it is important that you check the security of your server. It is also important that you invest in a good anti-virus program that will portect your hard drive.
Thank you for posting this!

I am a frequent user of Limewire, but before I remove it, what are the best (safest) alternatives?

I had to wipe my hard drive clean due to the spyware and/or malware that accompanied some of the music I downloaded through Limewire. It’s is definitely not a secure program.

As Mark said in his article, despite the risk, Limewire remains installed on computers. Perhaps we’re all playing with fire, but I believe we’re just willing to pay the consequences in the process of getting free music.

Well, it is illegal, after all, so I guess viruses are what we deserve.

It’s risky if you don’t know what you are doing, but nothing a decent, up-to-date, well configured free antivirus cannot handle.

Viruses are, in this case, a welcome side-effect of theft.
